Welcome to 3rd grade. I am excited for the school year to begin. Getting to know the students and watch them grow over the school year is always so exciting for me. My goal with the blog is to keep parent/guardians/grandparents informed about the happenings in our classroom.
We will begin the year with an integrated unit on how animals and plants interact. We will explore how animals and plants interact in our community and also in other habitats. In conjunction with our Science unit, our Guided Reading books will also focus on the theme of animals, plants, habitats and interaction.
Our Math focus will be on strengthening basic addition and subtraction facts, review of fact families and developing our understanding of place value (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, etc...). It is our goal to secure students knowledge that 10 sets of 1 are equal to 1 set of 10, 10 sets of 10 are the same as 1 set of 100, etc... Students will have a Math Notebook to keep their collection of work and strategies. In addtion, we will post a variety of strategies and/or student work. This allows students to have a reference for solving problems if they are not sure how to get started on a solution.
Finally, I am excited and pleased to have a student teacher working in our classroom for the 1st 9 weeks of school. Kylie Harris will be observing, planning and teaching in our room from Aug. 29th-October 23rd. I look forward to learning from her and being able to share knowledge with her.
Again, I am looking forward to a great start to the school year.
Mrs. C.
