News from 3C

First, let me begin by saying "thank you" for the extra efforts with the PTO fundraiser.  Wow, I have heard we exceeded the money raised last year by almost 20%  Yeah!!!!  The fundraiser items will be delivered to the school on Nov. 10th (I think....I will check as the date gets closer and let you know for sure).

As the 1st quarter approaches an end, we have a few things for parents to be aware of:
1.  The Scholastic Book Fair will again be in the Multipurpose Rm during P/T conferences.  It will be open to the public on Monday, Oct. 24th and Tuesday, Oct. 25th from 4:00-8:00.  The students will get a chance to preview and fill our "wish lists" prior to the 24th/25th.  Also, we will be sending home Scholastic book fair orders and information to order on-line (a great way for grandparents/relatives who don't live close to still participate in book orders).
2.  We will be sending home P/T conference request notes early next week.  Please look for them in your child's folder and return as soon as possible.  As a staff we do our very best to work with the times requested.  The week of Oct. 17th your child will get a note with the P/T conference scheduled time and date.
3. Thursday, Oct 27th we will have the school-wide Vocabulary Parade.  Students and parents choose an interesting, unusual or unique word and design a poster to show what the word means.  As a class, we will brainstorm words that might be good examples.  I will also show the classroom words/posters I have done over the past few years.  The Vocabulary Parade poster is a do-at-home project.  I will not send Reading homework that week, so students have more time to focus on planning, designing and creating their posters.  Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the Vocabulary Parade.
4.  We are wrapping up our model ecosystems.  Wow, what great work the students did!  To showcase our great efforts, 3rd grade will display their models in the glass case outside the gym/lunchroom.  Please check them out during P/T Conferences.  Next week we will add to our understanding, by doing a couple of different writing activities.  The writings will be displayed in our hallway during conferences.
5.  Our 1st set of penpal letters have been sent off to Mr. Searl's 4th grade class.  They are excited to receive letters from our class.  I am excited to see the writing process grow over the school year.  And to watch the students learn more about each other.

As always, thanks for your on-going support and cooperation.  Parent/Teacher teamwork is key to student success.
Mrs. C.
